Advanced Marine Navigation

April 3 to June 5, 2019

Americas Boating Club of Raleigh, also known as Raleigh Sail and Power Squadron, will be offering Advanced Marine Navigation using the Advanced Piloting Student Manual and materials. This course builds piloting skills that allow pilots to take on the challenges of unfamiliar waters, limited visibility, changing tides and currents, and extended cruises. GPS, radar, chart plotters, and other electronic navigation tools are covered, and hands-on exercises help advance student skills. Instruction is presented in 2-hour segments weekly, for 8 or 9 weeks with a review session. The exam is a take home exam with one week allowed for completion. We assume that you have completed Piloting and have the Weekend Navigator book which we use in this course. An on-the-water session, on the Neuse River or the Pamlico Sound, will take place, depending on weather and availability of an adequate boat.

The classes will be taught at the USPS HQ on Blue Ridge Road, starting at 7pm on Wednesday, April 3, 2019.
