Sail Class

January 15 to March 11, 2020

The Sail course is suitable for power boaters who want to understand sail boats, people who want to learn how to sail, and proficient sailors who wish to think more about the mechanics of getting the most out of their boats.

Sail is a course created to serve the needs of the novice and experienced sailor, as well as the non-sailor, for basic skills and knowledge.  The course starts with basic sailboat designs and nomenclature, rigging, safety and sail processes and then tackles the physical aspects of sailing forces and techniques, sail applications, marlinespike, helmsmanship and handling of more difficult sailing conditions, navigation rules and an introduction to heavy weather sailing.  Like most of our elective courses, this one is taught in 2-hour sessions once a week.

If you are curious about sailing or want to have more in-depth knowledge of how a sailboat works, join us. The course meets for 8 nights plus one night for the exam and will have a Saturday on-the-water sail of approximately 4 hours (weather and equipment permitting) where the principles covered can be put into practice on a sailboat.
